Lake Mills was ripe with spooky deals throughout its annual Ghouls Day Out on Oct. 21. Shoppers hit the streets for the Halloween-themed event for the chance to win baskets put together by participating businesses.

Shoppers started at Lake Mills Chamber Development Corporation, which puts on the event, and received their stamp cards. Then they went around to any of the Lake Mills businesses on the stamp card to have it marked and explore the shop’s deals. The more stamps they received, the more tickets they got to enter into the drawings once they returned to the LMCDC.

Ghouls Day Out started eight years ago when a local business approached the executive director of the LMCDC, Cassie Johnson, about creating a fall shopping event for the city.

“Fall’s kind of a busy time of the year, so a chance to do something fun downtown is always a good time,” Johnson said.

While Johnson is unsure how many people participated, the LMCDC had about 175 stamp cards returned.

This year’s stamp card locations included the LMCDC, Singlestad Hardware, North Branch Bar, Main Street Nutrition, Mill Street Wine & Spirits, Three Oaks Green House, Salon 304 Spa & Boutique, Swallow Coffeehouse, Uptown Boutique, 5 Alarm Brewing Company, Lazy Acre Winery, Tim’s Corner and Teluwut Grillehouse & Pub.

“I think that this is a good way to get people through the doors of businesses they maybe have not been in before,” said Johnson. “Then they are maybe more inclined to go back once they’ve been in there once or twice and be continued shoppers.”
